The Marble Temple, also known as Wat Benchamabophit, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and impressive temples in Thailand. Located in the Dusit district of Bangkok, this temple was built in 1899 at the request of King Rama V. The ordination hall, which is the main attraction of the temple, was constructed entirely of white Italian Carara marble.
The design of the temple was the work of two Italian architects, Carlo Allegri and Mario Tamagno, who brought a touch of European influence to the traditional Thai architecture. From the outside, the ordination hall is a stunning sight, with a multi-tiered roof covered in yellow glazed tiles and intricate carvings adorning the exterior.
Upon entering the hall, visitors are greeted by a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The interior of the hall is equally stunning, with intricately carved marble pillars supporting the ceiling and a golden statue of Buddha sitting atop a pedestal. The marble used in the construction of the hall gives the space a bright and airy feeling, and the natural light that pours in through the many windows adds to the beauty of the space.
One of the most striking features of the temple is the pair of white marble lions that stand guard at the front entrance. These magnificent creatures are said to represent strength and power, and they certainly add to the grandeur of the temple.
