The remote Snagov Monastery, located on an island in the middle of Snagov Lake, about 40 kilometers north of Bucharest, is a fascinating destination that brings the legend of Vlad Tepes to life. Despite the admiration for Vlad’s heroic battles against the Turks, there are still gaps to fill when it comes to the life of the Impaler. According to the legend, Vlad’s decapitated body was discovered in the woods around Bucharest and brought to the Snagov Monastery for burial since both Vlad and his father had donated money to the church. Visitors can pay their respects at Dracula’s tomb, located at the altar’s footsteps, and admire the magnificent frescoes, some of which date back to the 15th century.
